Our Story
more than a game
For more than 50 years, Cape Fear Rugby club has brought people together through the game of rugby, building lifelong friendships and lasting connections throughout the Wilmington, NC region.
Our History
where it all began
Cape Fear Rugby club was founded in 1974 in Wilmington, NC by 6 like-minded individuals who wanted to grow the game in our local area. Over the last 50+ years, Cape Fear Rugby club has continued to grow. In 2020, the youth rugby program was added which services 3 counties and 12 different schools. We are grateful for our sponsors and community that allows us the opportunity to offer the youth program and extend the rugby family. Over the years, the club has developed hundreds of youth players, many of whom have gone on to compete at the collegiate level and even recognized as an All-American. But our proudest achievement isn't the wins, it's our rugby family. It's the character the rugby bond builds in every player who puts on the jersey. We are members of USA Rugby and the Carolina Youth Rugby Union, committed to growing the game and developing the next generation of rugby players. Meet the 'Old Boys' who recently attended the 50th Anniversary of Cape Fear Rugby club.
